News From Fire Dragon Australia

JANUARY 2000 NEWSLETTER

Welcome to the first edition of Fire Dragon Australia News in the new Millenium!

Firstly, some news from the tail end of last century -

Sifu Hardy organised and taught at the 1999 Multistyle Weekend Course1, with Sifu David Crook of Bac Fu Do Kung Fu, Sensei Peter Sheils of International Goju Karate, Sensei Kerrie Flynn of Shotokan Karate, and Sensei Richard Harris of Shukokai Karate. Students of all styles participated, including Sifu Peter Watson and his students, from Combat Systems Intenational, and immersed themselves in Martial Arts from Saturday morning until Sunday evening. The Instructors from each style presented essential elements from their Art, and worked on forms, weapons, training methods, tactics and strategies. Before the Weekend finished, Sifu Hardy made the surprsie announcement that the Puppy has been promoted to the rank of Student Instructor, or Wasu - Congratulations Wasu Bellchambers - the first Australian Student Instructor!! All in all, it was a fulfilling weekend, and students and Instructors retired for a good night's rest afterwards!

1999 finished strongly, with five students successful in grading to White Sash. Chris Gunton graded on his last day in Canberra before moving to Mt Isa - congratulations Chris, but we are very sad to see you go. Good luck in all your ventures! Philip Deverson, Scott Smith, David Wright and Robin Maddock learned much from heir grading - well done gentlemen, and enjoy your training!

The Fire Dragon Annual Christmas Dinner was held shortly before training finished for the year, with a good turn out of students and their families and friends. Wasu Bellchambers was given the name of Shr Zr or Temple Lion, by Sifu Hardy, in recognition of his growth in the Way of the White Dragon.

Training for the new Millenium started on January 6, with the Club preparing for a big year. It will be an auspicious time for Fire Dragon Australia, as we start the Year of the Dragon on February 5! And, before it's too late, congratulations too, to Philip Deverson, who was presented with the 1999 Niket Rewal Award for devotion to the Way!
